An auto-responder plugs in to your site and builds a list of prospects for your business. It keeps these prospects ‘warm’ by drip feeding them pre-written emails.
So when someone requests more information on your site (signs up) the auto-responder adds them to a database and the starts emailing them.
Usually, prospects get an email immediately after signing up.
Then, depending on your sales process, you can mail them as often as you want. You specify when.
But here’s the biggie: it’s all automated. You don’t have to lift a finger.
So you may have 4 messages, that you want your prospects to get on day 1, day 3, day 4 and day 7.
Now, if you’re getting a healthy number of sign ups per day, imagine trying to do that process manually. It would be a nightmare. But an auto-responder is built for the job – that’s why they are so effective.
Best of all, you can send your emails whenever you want.
In the example above I use 4 emails. But in reality you need to plumb in as many as possible. I usually find around 50 is the sweet spot. It might take a prospect over a year to get all 50, but you get my point:
The prospect never forgets about you. And it all happens in the background.
But there’s another reason why they are so effective.
Most businesses make a huge marketing mistake when they decide to have a sales push. They go after new leads.
But the truth is, the people who have already enquired, are your best prospects. They are also your cheapest prospects.
In most cases this pot of gold – or old prospects if you prefer – gets overlooked. However, with auto-responder this never happens.
Just by adding an auto-responder you:
- Stay in front of every prospect
- Constantly chip away at the prospects most likely to buy
Now, these two things happen however good or bad your emails are.
But add some dusty, old, proven direct marketing principles to your mails and you’ll have an automated sales process that punches hard and gets your business sales and enquiries on tap.
Think about it.
You go fishing with one line and hook. Are you ever going to catch more than the guy with a 100 lines and hooks?
And that’s how auto-responders work – all for a few dollars a month.
